Talked to my dealer a few days ago about getting leatherette in the 520d... he said that it sucks and real leather is much better... we have discussed this a few times here and a lot of you guys said that you find it quite good... is the dealer just an idiot and is trying to sell a much more expensive leather cabin? or is leatherette just bad and nor worth the money?

i think it's fine. i really don't like the creases that some with aging leather so i went with leatherette. you should check both leather and leatherette for yourself and decide what you like better.

I agree, my neighbor has it in his E90 and to be honest it looks, feels and smells just fine, pretty close in fact to the supposedly premium leather in my 550!!

What is leatherette? Is it the mix of leather and wool? Then, it?s genius. Leather for feeling and smelling, wool for feeling better in winter and summer.

I had leatherette in my E46 and liked it for it's durability and general good looks. Nobody but an expert would tell you it's not leather. having said that, I do prefer the gen. leather in my E60. If I had a choice I would get leather, but I certainly wouldn't feel bad about having the BMW leatherette. If I didn't get a new car every 3 years I would be more inclined to get leatherette because there is no question it holds up better. Go look at a 10 year old BMW with real leather seats, chances are the drivers seat will look like hell. Leatherette will look good still.

i think that anybody knows leather can see its not real leather the moment they touch it... but on the other side i saw it, and it looks SUPER durable, probably much easier to clean, with just a sponge and soap. feels fine, and our reall leather seats do age teribly if they arnt perfectly maintained...and leatherette doesnt feel so bad..

if its feel you want (luxury), then take leather.
if you want duability, and easy maintence (heavy duty) take leatherette.

Virtually all cars in the UK used to come with nasty vinyl seats. Leatherette sounds so much nicer.

I hate the way the dakota leather always wears and wrinkles up closest to the drivers door. Unfortunatley we don't have the leatherette option here in the UK. I would opt for it.
