Probably an error... I wouldnt see why they would design two differnt radios just to make it different... it would probably be less costly to make them all 8 buttons
Maybe a US LCI owner could bring some certainty to this? 6 or 8 "iDrive Favourites Buttons" on US LCI?

Seems like a big booboo by BMW marketing otherwise.

Nice ride you have there. I've read somewhere in the posts what some members retrofitted paddle shift to Steptronic transmissions for the pre-LCI. I was just wondering how do they actually work? If so how would they work? Do we put the gearshift lever into M-Mode in order to use the shifters?

The US version has 6 favourites buttons and two static 'mode' and another. EU has 8 avourites buttons and no static.

What's static mode? And why the difference?

There are two buttons, one of them is 'mode' which is changing between media sources, the other I don't remember what it did. Don't know why, probably due to americans complaining about iDrive being complicated.

All very strange. The US manual shows buttons numbered 1-8 but states that only 1-6 can be programmed.

Can't find anything about 7 and 8.

Heyyyyyyyy..... sooooooooooooooooo sorry for hijacking the thread.
