I find it hard to believe that the cd players in our cars cannot play mp3s... even the $30 cd-rom player in my pc can play mp3s...

BMW just needs to write the software to do it (for example, if they wanted, they could add an equalizer to the standard audio system(US) )... its all done in software.

I have a UK spec 525D with base radio/cd plus Cd Changer. The manual quite clearly states that the CD PLayer will play MP3 files - it even tells you to use the Frauhofer codec when recording MP3's as well as how the I-Drive screen will dsiplay MP3 files contained in directories/folders on the CD.

I assume your US manuals say the same thing?

How can BMW produce a manual like this which leads you to believe you have something and then tell you it isn't going to be provided.

Anyone tried Sale of Goods Act / Trading Standards Department here in the UK?

HMMMM. So I wonder what would happen if something happened to an 04 CD-player. I guess they would have to replace it with the one that supports MP3. Interesting!!

Dealer just installed v13.2, all minor problems resolved.? New issue resulting from v13.2, as reported by others -- no RDS, and I can live without in the U.S., where RDS is barely supported by radio stations in most areas.

MAJOR BAD NEWS:? Upon my inquiry, my dealer in Indianapolis received an email reply that MP3 capability will NEVER be available on cars that came without it.? Supposedly, there will come a day when newly-delivered e60's have MP3 capability, but there will be NO RETROFIT.? I think this absolutely sucks -- has anyone else been told the same?? Has my dealer been given the latest info from BMWNA, or has he been given a line of crap to avoid a future software upgrade?

Opinions, please.

I am about to order a 530iA. Salesman is checking into iPod compatability for MY05. Months ago someone on this forum posted indicating availability in May, '05. If I learn different this weekend, I'll let you know. The first MY05 e60 on the lot here did not indicate iPod on sticker, so I'm not getting my hopes up, but definitely want to be able to add it.

Hi I have a pretty new E60 (build august 2004) and according to the manual it should play MP3 cd's. I tried it, however did not succeed. The manual states that you should use the frauenhofer MP3 codec and I did, but something is still wrong.
