You can try to replicate the sport package by using lowering springs and new wheels. You won't get the same exact feel of the sport package, but you will get pretty close (with good looks too).
Aftermarket springs and wheels will give you nothing like the sport package. Active steering, active suspension, etc. provide a whole different level of handling.

I've said it a million times before but I'll say it again, I always drive my car in manual mode with the sport button pressed...

That's great. Congrats. One question, does the SA have a "lag" when you floor it in first gear. I have the regular auto, and this hesitation, or delay is starting to piss me off. I just hit 1200 miles, so i'm starting to truly understand the power...every other gear is fine, but first gear from a complete stop is not good. Any thoughts?
Somebody needs a SprintBooster! For <$300 you can live a hesitation-less existance

Because I prefer the high technology of the SMG rather than an old-fashioned, traditional manual. After driving the SMG for 3 years, and about 33K miles, there's no going back to that old clutch pedal thingamabob...

I think 6th gear is locked out when in sport mode (not the console button but the S1, S2, S3... mode.)

I've said it a million times before but I'll say it again, I always drive my car in manual mode with the sport button pressed...
Actually, you have M6 available when the Sport button selected and in manual mode. The display indicates "Sport M6". Am I missing something?

On re-reading I see I am missing something... No S6 is your point. I didn't check that but I'll believe you.

On the other question, you lazy arse, it just could be that this transmission is "better" than straight manual in all or nearly all regards (depending on your needs/wants). I think it shifts faster than a human might do, only question is whether the shift points are optimized for what you're attempting to do... the algorithms may not be perfect, but "they're pretty darn quick!"

Have you tried resetting the auto. This has been mentioned many times on this forum, but works for some. Turn the key to position 2, engine lights on buy engine not started. Then press foot on accelerator right to the floor, so kick down is engaged. Hold it there for 25 or more seconds, then release. This is thought to reset the auto to factory settings and the lag disappears. It is a consequence of BMW's auto box "learning" your driving style, so it may reoccur, in which case repeat the process.
