Sorry 700700 I don't think this is entirely right - the steptronic takes a little while to react no matter what size engine you have.

On a V8 and V12 as you rightly say there is not the same NEED to kickdown due to higher availability of torque accross the rev range.

However, the time from kickdown to power on should be equivalent accross the model range.

Perhaps the box in the 7 series isn't as slow to act as that in the e60?

no idea. I only drive the 7 series and the 330i now and i can clealy say that the 7 series
is much quicker in kickdown mode... just leavesa a trail of burned rubber when i floor it

Yeah 5 is in the middle of 7 and 3 - maybe those guys at BMW have a plan after all
