Do you mean no kickdown described in the Manual because they call it downshifting? :'(

There is a kickdown in SMG, but only works in auto mode.

Basically, kickdown = maximum acceleration. There's a little button behind the gas pedal (for those with auto trannies) Go see for yourself.

Try pushing the pedal all the way down with the engine off (obviously) You'll feel a little resistance, so push it all the way down. This is how kickdown engages when you want to accelerate.

BTW, when you initiate kickdown the computer assumes that you want maximum power and acceleration so any manual upshifts through steptronic will be overriden. The car will upshift automatically at redline.

During kickdown does it downshift one gear or is it capable of skipping gears and jump to the gear which gives max accel?

It shifts down to the gear it can give you max accel. It then revs up all the way to the red line and shifts into the next gear.

Is it normal when you hit the kickdown, it needs a response time of a half to a full second?!! It is just so annoying that it doesn't respond as fast as i want on my 525xi.
