This morning i started the car the usual way, and when i start the engine, i get the yellow error message with a KEY with a dash through it and it says on the IDrive that "The remote control is not in the ignition lock and that restarting it may not be possible". So i cut the car off and let it sit for a minute and started it again and it says the same thing now, but the engine is running and everything else works.

Is the key going bad? or is it the ignition?

its a '08 528i Sedan

I have no idea, but a few things you can check. Maybe the key is not attached to the remote securely? Maybe your remote is not pushed in all the way in the ignition?
Just a thought?

Some sensor problem again, not unknown to the E60's.

Let your dealer check out the Progman.
