"Key Fob Error"
#1
Last night I put my key in the car after leaving the local fresh market... The display on the dash showed a key with a line through it, like a no-smoking sign. The iDrive then says something about a key error and... something about the car may not restart.
Instead of driving straight home, I turned the car off. the suspense was killing me (i was one of those kids that would touch the pan after my mom told me "dont touch it, it's very hot"?
Anyway, the car turned right back on, no problem. Now... I know my car is like a rolling menace to sanity, but I have never seen or heard of this error. I did do a search...
Thoughts?

Sometimes, with my key in my pocket, this will occur. It may be time to replace your key fob battery assuming you have comfort access. CR2032 batteries will do the trick. You should still be under warranty so have them changed by the dealer for free. Do both remotes at the same time.
The same warning will always occur if you step out of the car while it is running (if you have the key in your pocket).

Hey Craig. When was the last time you drove you car? Maybe you need to drive around for a while for the key battery to recharge. I'm assuming you haven't driven your car for a while. Just a thought

mmm did you get it just today? Did you try turning it off for a while (till the computer turns off completely, i think 30min) just in case make it 2h or so. Then try turning it back on, maybe the error will go.
And I think I recall reading somewhere that if the car is not driven 7,500miles/year, the battery tends to have low voltage and sending random errors every now and then. Try checking the battery voltage.
Again those are just random guesses trying to help you out. I never had that message before.

If you see it again, take a picture with your iPhone or get the error message verbatim. One of my E60 keys (no comfort access) does something like that from time to time. I isolated it to one specific key.
