Gentleman:

Thank you all for your replies. My car is totally paid off and has no overhead in maintainence except for the 50 buck deductibles on the warranty. I will take ALL of your advice. I am mechanically inclined and have posted a few DIYs but have never done stuff like oil changes, etc on the car. This has all been done at the dealer. Here's what I plan on doing....

1. Get the tranny fixed and see how things go till 100K or till warranty runs out....
2. Find a good Indy shop for minor issues
3. Keep the car if all goes well..

I don't need a new car and it runs well enough that I shouldnt worry...but....one hit and I fear that it's going to be a costly recovery.

In reading your replies..I realize I love me 545i way too much to part with it without reason!

Thanks guys!

Tranny slam is a sudden "kick" in hte transmission when you accelerate after a brief, or incomplete stop.

Aha! The only thing I sometimes get is, after the car has stood for a few hours, when I restart, then pull away it will "hang on" to first gear a bit too long, making the change up to the next gear jerky. Is this typical?
