My Ride: 2005 545i E60 Orient Blau Metallic
Premium, NAV, Winter Package, Heads Up Display, Logic 7 Audio, AngeliBright Upgrade [White], M5 Body Kit, M Embroidered Seats
Guys:
I've been thinking about this for a while and wanted to see where everyone weighs in.
I have a fully loaded 545i with the original owner extended warranty to 100K, another 2 years. For the most part, the car has been good and not had major issues. However, as some of you may have read - the tranny slam has come up and I am getting nervous about holding on to it for longer...
So here are my options:
1. Trade in, get a new 5er or even 3er (diesel): The car gets about 15K on KBB which is nuts but I guess it could end up costing me more down the road
2. Hold on to it till 99K miles and then get rid of it at which point I doubt I'll get anything for it.
3. Ignore the concerns, hold on to it...find a good Indy shop and pray...
I wanted ALL your opinions..which one -- 1, 2, or 3????

we need more background on you. Are you prepared to pay for the repairs on the car? Are you mechanically inclined any? I plan on keeping my car a LONG time. I feel like I can repair many things myself so that saves me alot of money. But if you don't think you can do that, and don't want to pay though the nose, then by all means, get out while you still have some value in the car. I am predicting with the help of others on this and other boards, we can build a database of information on self maitience of these cars. But it takes knowledgeable people who arn't afraid to open the hood to do it and to understand the dealer isn't the end all of repairs.

I too have an 2005 545i but with a 6 speed manual. I am a mechanic, so i plan on fixing anything that goes wrong with it. If you cant do things like this, then just be aware of the cost of repairs.
Even though this has already had a bunch of stuff break, i still love this car and is by far, the most fun, and entertaining to drive.

Is the car paid off? How many miles on it?
If it is paid for, and still has two years of CPO I don't see why would you want to sell it, loose a bunch $$ on it, only to put yourself in debt again. Why? Especially if you are satisfied with the car.
Now, if yo WANT a new car, then all of that is irrelevant, just go and get what you want.

By the way, No BMW (or any lux vehicle for that matter) should be diesel. Leave it for tractors!

If you slowly reread your post, you are looking for support to trade it in and get something new. Who cares what we think? If that's what you want to do, get to work! Post some pics of the new ride plz....

I choose option 3 and go get your transmission serviced. I'm at 75,000 miles with zero warranty on a 2004 530i. If you take care of your car and put some money to the side there is no reason to panic. Its a car, things can be fixed. Relax and enjoy your BMW.

Thoughts from a "newbie":
I've driven/owned countless cars from a Dodge Aries "K" car to my current '04 530i. These cars have been crappy to outstanding. I put my E60 in the outstanding category. I have had a few issues with the E60. Some cheap and some not so cheap. That being said, I don't know that I would purchase any other make of vehicle. For all the complaints you read on these posts, I'd rather deal with them and drive a nice, comfortable car. If it's paid for, I say go with option #3, keep it and find a good indy.
