My 04 545i with 83k has no major problems. The only thing thats gone bad is my clutch. Im getting the sparkplugs changed due to a rough idle but thats really about it. Transmission flush soon and maybe a new battery for me after that. I say keep her and just keep the mods flowing, thats where i am right now!

I just experienced the tranny slam as well, but it was just a computer upgrade. Don't know if your issue is that simple or not, if so...easy fix.

By the way, No BMW (or any lux vehicle for that matter) should be diesel. Leave it for tractors!
Diesel is the new gasoline.

First things first.....
Get the transmission replaced! How can you make a decision based upon a car that has such a glaring flaw? After which, you can make a better decision based on your feelings for a great car running well! Let us know what you end up doing, and good luck with your decision!

15K that hurts! For a car that ones was close to 65K (just 4-5 years ago)

i've had the same dilemna and I decided to keep. I see some clean looking e39 or even e34 on the roads, and some people keep them for decade. So e6o should be keeping up like that as well (hopefully). Design is not going to get old for another 5 years or so. The only worries I have is transmission and electronics. If transmission can be replaced before warranty goes out that would be nice but it's hard to convince the warranty to pay for something that is not really broken..

depends on your financial situation of course, but I would keep the car. selling it for 15k and buying something expensive will cost a lot, and I myself tired of throwing money for this. I never paid off the car before, always changed the cars becouse something new came up.. and then you see people who paid off and they don't have no car payment no headaches.

I placed myself in the same situation 1 year from my original CPO purchase date. I was going to buy a 2005 545i carbon black with about 40k miles. I'd end up being upside-down on my car because I would only get about 16k for it after trade-in. I was just in despair for not getting a V8 5-series off the bat and instead I got an I6. However, the more I thought about it the more I realized my car was virtually trouble-free, beautiful, and I put so much in mods into it that I just wouldn't get back. So I decided to keep her and I'm glad. Now I'm just going to save up, pay this car off, and then get a CPO F10 in 2013.

How much did the clutch set you back? And when did it go out?
