what was the temperature and were the tyres cold ?
i found the runflats very "hard" and therefore non sticky in cold weather

Have finally ordered an 07 530 d se 231 auto this afternoon - Used to front wheel drive cars and managed to spin the 525d demonstrater during a test drive. Salesman was shocked as I had all the elecrtonic gismos on - 2nd gear, wet roundaboun - no damage. I ordered a car afterwards which made it ok. Will my new 530 d se auto be "tail happy"
Please advise - will auto box help

That's why we buy RWD cars - it's more fun
Just be ready with opposite lock!
Practically i find i drive slower around roundabouts (especially when it's cold and wet) than in my wife's FWD car. But when i decide to give it some right foot, i'm generally grinning well

To answer your original question, the 530d has loads more torque than the 525d so if you can get a 525 out of line then be much more careful in the 530.
Having said that, touch wood, I have rarely troubled the traction control in the 530d since ditching the runflats

I have 275mm wide 19" tyres on the back of my 530d and am still very glad to have the benefit of all of the BMW electronic stability aids.
It is EXTREMELY easy to make the DSC activate when cornering with any amount of enthusiasm (it hardly ever kicked in on my last car, which was a 320cd)
I have to add though I haven't come even remotely close to spinning out no matter what the weather.
How fast were you going when you span out?
(And watch out for the cops if you can stay on the road for long enough
)

You shouldn't have slid at that sort of speed.
I have had probs before riding over spilt diesel from a lorry, I nearly lost it on 3 roundabouts in a row in loughborough before I knew what was going on, it felt like I was on ice. Maybe that was it?
Once you get used to rear wheel drive you'll love it - although the back does kick out now and again (with DSC off) it is TOTALLY correctable and feels much more controlled at speed than ANY front wheel drive car.
(thats why I still love my very first car - 1600cc ford cortina markV)
