I think the platinum grey is the most stunning colour for the E60.
I just saw one this morning in real life on the highway, it is by far the best dark grey BMW makes. It is absolutely gorgoeus.
To anyone who ordered this colour congratulations, I was hesitant on seeing it in the brochure and on the web, but in real life the colour is glorious . Very different then the 'now ex' titanium grey.

Can you describe your impression of it some more?

I'm leaning heavily towards platinum grey, but the nearest example is 50 miles from my house.

My concern is that it is more to blue-grey or steel grey.

The grey is very steel grey, without any hint towards blue nor green .

It looks very Porsche grey, which to me is the perfect grey. It is a tad darker than my old E46 Steel Grey, but Platinum Grey sparkles like no tomorrow.
Under the bright midday sun on the highway, it looks like a sparkling diamond from my rear view mirrow. The grey looks very solid and have hints of metallic which I am sure changes colours as the day wears on. The colour matches the front amber arch and red rear cluster exceptionally well, which made it even more stand out.

The E90 'Sparkling Graphite' was to me a perfect BMW colour, I was upset that its not offered for the E60, but until today when I saw the PG in person. SG lost its sparkle...

I think that it is nice as well, however a bit too dark for my taste.
Attached please find the photos of brand new Platinum gray 523i of a Danish colegue of mine.

Here's another one who changed from Space Grey to Platinum Grey - and I'm very happy I did. My car is due next week (so they say), so I'll post pics as soon as I can.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I'm concerned space grey will be too bland, which is pushing me towards platinum.

BMWs greys seem to use metallics that give subtle undertones. Sparkling graphite has red undertones, and I saw a Z4 coupe that had beige undertones.

It seems like a color you need to see in person. I think I'll make a trek to the dealer that has the Platinum 5er in stock.
