I have yet to race a 335i on the highway but i got walked by a 335i in my SAT 550i and i also had a 335i as a loaner... i can tell you that the 335i felt faster on both highway runs and dead still runs.

I even raced my friends CLK55 in the 335i and was dead even from 0-100 meanwhile the 55 gives me problems in my 550i.

I would assume a 6spd 550i should do much better though...

I was also browsing thru youtube and seen all those 335i vs X races and its interesting because one video shows a 335i spanking an E46 M3 while another shows otherwise.

Of course the 335i has the advantage below the triple digit speeds, the body is much lighter than the 550i + the twin turbos = fast acceleration which beats the 0-60 mph of the 550i. I wouldn't be surprised if the 335i can match the CLK55 AMG, it's a damn fast car (I would have gotten this car if the inside wasn't so small)

Most of the 335i races on youtube are modded 335is which have gotten at least a remap, boosting their HP greatly by about 25%. I've seen a 335i matching an M5 head to head for about 0-100 MPH on one of its street races.

on acceleration runs the steptronic is typically quicker than the 6spd.

Depends on whos behind the wheel. If its WalkedU or heezy545i they'll prob be faster... those two guys can launch a manuals.

That's true, but make that Znod and Grogan545 with their steptronic - probably faster still

I suspect the vast majority of us vastly overestimate our driving ability, and for most people, most of the time, the step will generally be quicker.

I don't think i suck with tip... its known that leaving the car in Sport mode will give you better times then using tip.
I only use tip when i want to pretend i have a stickshift or when im twistys and i want to hold my revs.

You guys are so funny.. it must be something about being from US

Why there are parts of highways in Germany where you can go unlimited speed? Because it is safe (long straights, wide, less traffic), on other parts the speed is limited when it wouldn't be safe. They understood this. Everybody is responsible for everyone in the world if we'll be getting really theoretical, from what Mr. 550i racer said I don't feel it would be getting anywhere dangerous. It's BMW after all

And one more thing - it seems to me many Americans are crazy ... having so much horse power and rolling 60 all the time. Only using the power at traffic lights. That's one of the reasons american cars can't do any proper cornering.

We had a really nice seminar at a local BMW Dealership where all last models were tested and presented by German guys from BMW Factory in Munchen. I can't tell you how they were driving on 2nd and 3rd class roads OK... FAST like hell, being like one body - man & machine.. but of course, not stupid.
