I just got my car back from the dealer yesterday and today was the first day that I really opened it up on the way to work. When I parked I noticed a burning smell.

This is what I had done.

Tensioner replaced
Thermostat replaced
Valve cover and hoses
Rear window fixed.

Could any of those things being new have a "break in period" where they would cause a burning smell for a while? If not any suggestions?

It's possible that when they replaced the valve cover they spilled some oil on the engine. If that's the case and it is a little spilled oil, it will burn off soon and you won't smell it anymore.
