I'm thinking of trading my 06 530i sport with an E46 M3. Anyone ever pull this sort of down-sizing before? Any input, suggestions.

The reason I want to do it is how the E60 feels so HEAVY... it is just not inspiring me as much as my old '00 Si. I think the mass is killing it.

Check the weight difference, you might be surprised. Yes, you are looking at two completely different types of cars but to me the power of the M3 would be the only selling point of that car. I assume that you had a Civic? If so the size of the M3 would probably be more to your liking.

The weight of the e60 may not actually be as much as you think. While it does have a feeling of 'heft', to be honest it's just the way BMW makes these cars. I like it as it makes me feel glued to the road, and the fact that the steering feel is awesome and and suspension is perfect (for me) this is something I like. Weight-wise, it's not far off from a 3 series convertible which feels much lighter.

If this feeling is not something that's for you, the 5 may not be also. Try the new F10 5 series... talk about heavy!

I don't think that's crazy. I have an '06 530 and want a 335 coupe...i like sporty, but will hold off for now!

My Ride: 2007 525xi, all stock. Seems pretty basic

I moved from a 2005 330xi to a 2007 525xi and I do miss the difference off the line greatly. But that's about it. The rest of the car is hands down nicer than the 3 series. I just feels roomier and stable. However it was the 3'S handling that caught my attention originally.

Coming from an e46 to an e60 myself, I know what you mean about the large "feel." I don't think there is actually much weight differnce though, but the size does matter.

Try thinking of a 545 or 550 ? The torque of these cars will make your car feel lighter off the line.
