My daughter called from the university. She found a parking spot marked "Compact" close to class and wanted to know if she can park there. A quick search with Google using her car make and model and "epa classification" yielded an answer. I thought it was a mid-size vehicle. According to the EPA, she actually drives a compact. What if the university police give her grief over it? I needed something more solid than just web search results. I made a photocopy of her vehicle MSRP window sticker to keep in her glovebox.
As it turns out, MSRP window stickers show the EPA classification. In our case, we can legally park our 2004 and 2005 E60 in compact parking spots

E60 2006 and later, and the F10 are classified by the EPA as mid-size. Of course, beware of door dings and scratches.

No one gives a rats here in California... or So Cal at least... I've seen huge Toyota Tundra's and Ram 350s parked in Compact spots...
LMAO.
"Compact"
Hell, I get pissed off when a guy in an E92 335i parks in a compact spot bc it makes it very difficult to go around the turns in the garage, never mind if I see a 5 series parked there. haha
As far as door dents go, in my garage, the compact spots are alone and surrounded by walls not by other cars so it's the safest spot if you can fit without sticking out and obstructing traffic.
