just discovered DS - question

Hmmm.... I must be backwards. I would always use D when city driving and DS on the highways. I noticed harsher shifts in DS during my city driving, especially when comming to a stop and sometimes jerkiness when speeding up. It seems like it would hold in the upper rpm range too long anticipating me to floor it some more (when I couldnt due to traffic or whatever)... so I stopped using DS on the streets.
Having the steptronic, smg, or manual might make a big difference here...
Should I switch?

same here, after 17.1 driving in D feels pretty similar to pre 17.1 DS to me. I used to use DS pretty much 100% of the time but that will drop now I have 17.1

Ya DS is pretty cool, but remember, your tranny will not go into 6th while in DS, so when cruising on the freeway, slide it over to D to get 6th gear and better gas mileage.

My Ride: 2007 Titanium Gray 550i, with sport, nav, HUD, Logic7, sat radio, cold weather, rear side airbags, rear seat heaters, and it goes like a bat outta hell!
I got the impression with my car that driving in D after upgrading to 16.2 was BETTER than driving in DS in pre-16.2 Now, in DS, the car really jumps. For some reason, I hesitate to use DS all the time.....and I can't really give a good reason for it!

My Ride: Arrived 3 June 2005: 2005 545i - Orient Blue, Black interior, Sport, Steptronic, Cold Weather, NAV, Sirius, Logic7, Comfort Seats, Sunshades. What a glorious ride!
The 545i is quite tractable in D mode; DS can be a little bit overkill when driving through a typical suburban neighborhood. And on the Interstate, there is no real need to use DS IMO. Whenever I need to blow past someone at 80 mph, I can do it with no problem in D mode.
I guess I use DS mode mostly on 2-lanes where it really shines, passing coal trucks and the like and making the twisty bits really fun.

Why spend $50K for non-performance mode?
