I have been riding mine without it. I bought my 06 525i with 53K already less than a year ago and it is running like a champ! I have 69K on it and no issues. I have done myself couple oil changes but that's it. Couple months ago the passenger front window did not want to go up automatically and in one of the forums I learned how to reset it.

my warranty expires Febuary 4th.. I am debating on the extended maintenace.. I think it's one way to keep you comming to the dealership and if they find anything wrong hold the car for the ransom. This is an extremem case.. SO I am just thinking about going to an independent.

Also I am thinking about doing an extended warranty through mecury insurance.. fairly expensive but at least when parts go out. I should be covered... right

Living without a warranty sucks! Mine ran out 1,800 miles ago and I just spent all morning replacing the waterpump/coolant flush
I'd hate to think what it would have cost having the stealer fix it!!!
Not to hijack the thread, but did you do this on your own or due to failure? The reason I ask is, I doubt changing a water pump would be covered under warranty if there was no failure.
Regards.

Last I remember, extended maintenance was over $2k. I wouldn't do it because at most you are looking at 1 set of front and rear brakes, 2-3 oil changes with a micron filter, some wiper blades and spark plugs. Thats about it. The cost of parts shouldn't be more than $700-800.
I bought it last time before my 04 545i was stolen but don't plan to do it again. I will wrench on the new one myself and keep track of total onwership cost.
Regards.

Actually the extended maintenance plan can be bought for around $1650 (+- $100). It might work out, but you have to do the math.
