Bought my '04 545i couple months ago with 47,000 miles, 1 week out of factory warranty. Bought it from private luxury dealer. I have a buddy who works for BMW and was able to do an extended carfax inquiry for me, so I had some additional confidence regarding this car's history. I never considered extended warranty at time of purchase and one was not offered to me. I am also one of those people who rarely purchase protection plans on much of anything. From my research on this forum, an extended warranty would cost me about $3000. So I did not buy a plan and I am willing to spend $3000 to $4000 to keep her running. Any more than that and I am out. I should also mention that this is not my every day car and usually only driven on weekends. I was referred to this site for extended warranty but none was offered for my car.

This company actually offers a warranty for my car...I was really surprised. I thought my 85K miles would be a deal breaker, but they offer a zero-deductible drivetrain plan, for 100,000 on top of my milage for only $1300. I call BS, there is no way coverage that good could be so cheap. Anyone ever dealt with this broker?

Good lookin out. When I put in my "04 545i" with 48,000 miles... I was told "Sorry, no plan available at this time". I would not worry about the broker... I would call the "insurer" directly to verify benefits. I have heard that it is helpful to contact your local BMW Dealers and ask the service department if they accept your Extended Warranty Plan. This may help you make the right choice.

My warranty just expired last week. Because I wasn't the original owner, I couldn't extend mine to 100k. I ended up getting an aftermarket warranty to 100k for major issues. I'm hoping that this car will be just as reliable as my Wife's 2002 E46 which was suppose to have a lot of issues. It's still going strong, and have no warranty at all.

Good Luck

So, if you are not the original purchaser of the vehicle you're not allow to buy the extended warranty?

Living without a warranty sucks! Mine ran out 1,800 miles ago and I just spent all morning replacing the waterpump/coolant flush
I'd hate to think what it would have cost having the stealer fix it!!!

I just had this done as well. The pump was $320 (OEM) and labor was 80 bucks. Independent mechanic did the work.

my factory warranty end at the end of Feb, no plans to get an aftermarket warranty for $2,500. I have an 05 545i, been perfect and has only 23k miles plus it's a 6 spd which comforts me a bit not have an expensive auto tranny. My checkbook will be my warranty. Plan to drive the car to 60k miles, then get something else.

I have an 04 530i, and my factory warranty expired this past summer. right now, I am taking my chances. how many of you guys are driving w/o warranty? what kind of problems might come up for my 04 530i? anyone has the same year model and would like to share their experiences? thanks!
I ran my E39 for 4 years / 40K miles without warranty, and it had 155K miles on it when I sold it on. As far as I know I had zero expenses which would have been covered by a warranty - everything I had done was normal running costs (tyres, battery, servicing etc.)

I'm now running my 53-plate 530iSE (50K miles on the clock) without warranty. So far only problem was the bonnet release cable breaking (would that have been covered by the warranty?) so my fingers are crossed that I have the same good fortune with this one.

Having said this, as I bought this from a Jag dealer, would I have had any kind of BMW warranty option anyway, or can you only get these if you buy from a BMW dealer?

I bought my 2006 535D touring 6 months ago. it was 80.000km, first owner, certified not being accidented,...
I bought it 38000?, which is almost half price of a new one.

My philosophy is this one:
The car belongs to my company. if I want to get rid of it, no issue.
When I bought it (from private owner), I took an insurance for mechanical damage coverage (6 months - 450?)Now, I'm out of warranty. I've drove already 30.000km with it, so if anything was abnormal, I should have detected it before.
I buy second hand because, at the end of the day, it will be cheaper than a new one. The big loss of the value of the car is done on the first 2 years from new.
So, if I have any problem, it will be (even if the engine breaks) cheaper than a new one.
