Default Just bought a beautiful 2008 535XI

As I said I just bought an almost perfect 2008 535xi in Michigan. Perfect car fax, one previous owner noted by dealership as an "older couple"

The price was good although there were some minor issues. Small chip paint on the roof and the issue I am most stuck Cerner about.

I am a tall dude and and the steering wheel doesn't tilt up or down. The current position is a little lower than I would like but not all the way down. It's a situation where I would like it fixed but I can deal with it the way it is for a bit.

More information the telescoping does work so it will get closer and further but not up and down. I have not noted any other electrical issues. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your purchase, but is there a question there somewhere?

I'm sorry for not being specific. I am wondering if this is an issue other people have solved or run into, or if I should shell out for a BMW dealership consultation. I have been doing research for a bit now and have seen some things I may look into tomorrow.

Steering wheel telescopes and tilts. Joystick knobby near the turn signal stalk. If moving it up/down does nothing, there may be a duff motor. Do you hear any sounds when moving the joystick?

There is a slight click noise. Sounds like it wants to move then doesn't

I have been in these forums for years and I can't recall this being something I have come across.

Good luck!

FWIW, the tilt on my steering sometimes acts oddly. It always moves to high position when I shut off the car, but sometimes 'forgets' to go back down on re-start. Either that or it drops all the way to the bottom, rather than its memory position. If I re-set the memory it works OK for a while then loses it again. A minor irk.

Default Fixed

I got it fixed from a local shop, apparently the motor locked up for the tilt function. It cost about $200 but it was cheaper than the BMW option of a $500 part plus labor. The guys at Autohaus in Royal Oak Mi got it taken care of in a few days while I was out of town.
