Jump starting battery

I'm trying to jump start my e60 in my garage using my other vehicle with jumper cables because the battery seems to have gone dead. I hooked up the cable to the positive terminal under the hood which is clearly visible, I don't see a place to put the black end of the cable, should I just connect it anywhere metal on my vehicle or is there a specific area I should connect it to? thanks.

Yep I tried that and no luck, I just get a click but no engine activity at all so I'm guessing the battery is just dead. I was going to remove the battery and take it to Auto Zone and have them charge and test it to see if it's any good anymore. I read some other forum post regarding something about the possibility of the battery exploding while removing it? It didn't go into much detail regarding this, does anyone have an idea what they were referring to?
You probably just don't have a good connection.

Try to find a different location - make sure you aren't connecting to something that's insulated from the body shell. You can tell typically when you find a good spot when you see the interior lights come back on, etc.

There is a negative terminal about 1 foot to the right of the red jumpr in the engine bay just for this purpose. It looks like a large bolt head sticking up about an inch.

Tried starting from the body from several locations with no luck, then tried the bolt you referred to and started up on the first try. Thanks for the information worked like a charm!

BTW - I did read somewhere ... that BMW does not recommended attaching jumpers directly to the battery. Something about potential of damage to the IBS ?? But I don't remember where I read that
