Just want to get a feel for where this dealership is at.

2008 535i with 58k miles. Alpine white with black interior. Sports package, cold weather package, Premiem package, auto, navigation.

I'm planning on trading in my 2005 Acura TL with 87k miles. Navi. Auto. Extended warranty. Brand new high performance toyo tires.

My out the door price is $20080 (talked down from $22500).

How does that sound?

I forgot to mention this isn't a CPO either.

Every used car is unique ... but the deal doesn't look right to me.

Your TL is probably worth $14K in a private deal ... and the wholesale book on the '08 535 is less than $24K ... that's a $10K delta assuming both are in "good" or better condition. Also don't know where in the world you are. Markets for cars vary geographically ...

I just brokered a deal for a buddy on a two-owner '08 550 w/sport + the usual options, 25K original miles and he got the car at $27K ... AND with more than a year to go on the factory warranty it's a BMW CPO that follows the car for a total of 6 years and 100K miles.

SO, IMHO you need to be better prepared to shop or I have a bridge I'd like to tell you about.

Just a quick stab at it...that 535i is about a $30,000 car...so that means your getting about $10,000 for your Acura. OR the 535i is about a $25,000...then that means your getting $15,000 for the Acura. Now I'm not really sure what the Acura is worth...but that is kinda how I would go about figuring if the deal is good or not.

Yeah the deal doesn't sit right with me either since I know my car is worth approx $13k. I'm located in Chicago and the dealership is in Michigan.

The 535i is listed at $29995 and they lowered it to $28500.

I'm still waiting to hear back from some other dealerships in the area but the white/black combo is pretty difficult to find.

Thanks for the input.

I just made a similar deal. I traded in my 05 X3. I knew what I wanted for my trade-in. Keeping in mind that this was right before Christmas, I went in and made my offer. They refused. Two days later they called and accepted. I had two big advantages going for me - I had a nice car that I really wouldn't have minded keeping and it was near the end of the year. Those two things weighed heavily in my favor. Sounds like you've got at least one of those going for you - the TL sounds like a nice car. Go back tomorrow and tell them what you want, leave your number and walk away. IMO...your "out the door" price needs to be closer to $18K.

My thoughts exactly. My low ball offer was $17k since I knew they'd counter. I do want some kind of warranty though.

How many problems you have had with your Acura? My wild guess close to 0. Now add at least $2K/year for repair and maintenance bills for the bimmer and re-think your deal from a new angle.

May be try to sell Acura on your own.. I was in a "somewhat" similar situation. Trade in: 2001 Passat, Purchase: 2008 535i. The dealer low-balled on trade in and would not negotiate on 535. I ended up selling Passat on my own ($4700 vs $1650).

Quite a pessimistic view for a BMW owner/enthusiast. I can't imagine paying $2k/year unless you're throwing money away at a stealership.

Good call. For now, I'm still a bit lazy and its probably pretty difficult to sell a car in the middle of winter when the car is always covered in salt. So far, a couple dealerships have budged a bit (found a CPO 535i with the same options and he immediately went lower than the other guy).

I'll play this out and worst case, I'll sell the TL privately, get my money and go from there.
