This year Ireland is changing its TV service from Analogue to Digital mpeg4. The Analogue signal will be switched off. What does this mean for my idrive TV? I have an E60 2006 530.

Is there another country that uses digital mpeg4 in the idrives TV country list? If yes, if I switch to this country in the list will the car display the irish TV digital channels?

UK switched off the analogue TV signal some time ago.

Unless your car has a digital decoder, the TV will not work, my guess is that it will not have.

 

My '06 E60 is a German import. I wonder was German TV digital in 2006?

Surely some countries were digital in 2006. In TV settings any country can be selected, so there must be a decoder for those countries in the idrive system.

 

Norway uses Mpeg4, and no OEM car TV-tuners supports this yet. If someone buys a brand new BMW with TV function here, they will get a black screen.

 

BMW sells a DV-T module. Or upgrade to the TV modules as used in the E90.

 

Thanks. Is there an online BMW website that, if I enter my Chassis no., will tell me the spec of my car along with info on whether is has an analogue & digital combo tuner?

 

The BMW digital tuners only work with Mpeg2, not Mpeg4.

Sorry , no update from BMW yet on this issue , there Digital TV tuner's is still only MPEG2 , also for all ther new models F10-F11-F30 etc.

Why they don't make/offer a MPEG4 tuner is strange , the market is there , several contry´s is now on MPEG4 decoding , Norway , Denmark , Sweeden , Ireland , etc.
