With IPOD/USB option will leaving IPOD plugged in drain battery
I have the IPOD option with my 09 535 and just purchased my first IPOD and was wondering if I turned off the car with the IPOD still connected will it drain the battery or does the IPOD automatically turn off at some point when the car is shut off. I looked at the plugged in IPOD when I turned off the car and noticed it was still lit and the song title was on the screen. I heard something about the car going to sleep and turning off all electronics after a certain time and wondered if this would cause the IPOD to turn off. Should I bother to disconnect the IPOD when I turn off the car?

Nope, the iPod will shut off when the car is shut off. I have a dedicated iPod I simply leave in the center console, been there since I bought the car back in November 2007 with no battery issues...

Sorry to hear that. You have my deepest condolences. Let's hope you're one of the lucky ones that doesn't care about not being able to carry a spare battery with you, or having to send it back to Apple and pay $100 to get a replacement battery, or being strictly tied to iTunes.

PS - to answer the OP question... no, the iPOD will shut off in about 15 minutes after turning off the car.

Why would you need a spare battery if you leave the thing in your car the whole time? My 3 year old iPOD (heck, it might even be older than that), sits nicely in my car (and has for the last two years) and plays just fine. Heck I even took it out recently while my car is in the shop and it works fine in my rental (even on battery!). Amazing. Maybe I'm one of the lucky ones who doesn't care about not being able to carry a spare battery with you (not sure WHY in the world you would want to do that with an iPOD) and iTunes seems to work pretty good to me.......Heck, I can even buy my songs from Amazon and they show up there......

I believe there was a bit of sarcasm from member DD_545i
