Hey...

So, I have a minor vibration that comes from the rear - but it comes and goes. I have ASA R1 rims in a staggered setup... 245/18 up front and 265/18 in the rear, IIRC. PSI called for is 33 rear, 30 front stock.

So, at speeds between 60 mph and roughly 80-85 mph, I have a vibration sometimes, and other times the car feels like it is on glass it is so smooth... this on/off with the vibration can come/go within a moment or two. Of course I am going to take it in to the local BMW specialist, but I figured I'd query the collective. It also seems - and I could be wrong - that it is pavement specific. When I'm on silly smooth pavement, it is always silly smooth.

Is PSI correct for the staggered setup?

Is there a known wear item that can cause such a vibration?

The front end is rock solid, nothing. Like glass. It is just the rear.

Assumption: Since it comes and goes, I assume it is not the tires or rims, if they are out of true or balance, they are out all the time. I hate to characterize the issue, but it seems more of a "harmonic", than a "vibration", if that makes sense. Which is why I'm wondering suspension or chassis wear part?

Thanks for any guidance.

Barry

I never drove on silly smooth pavement before. Or did you mean silky?

Do you get thumping under your seat? How does the vibration manifest.....where in the car do you feel it?

Only when the people I run over become trapped in the undercarriage.

Are you running a hub ring?

Hey....

Yup, meant SIIIIIIILLY smooth. Like glass.

Running a hub-ring supplied by TireRack with the rims.

Definitely the rear. Feel it in the seat, not the steering wheel. It is most definitely the rear.

Also, filled up with gas today, that seems to "damp" it.

Are they the plastic kind of aluminum? Some have more success w/ the plastic.

Plastic, which put me off. I assumed metal type are better. I heard they aren't.
