Thank you for your help. I think it is the particulate filter, I must have one as my exhaust is always clean, no soot. The smell has completely gone now and the car seems fine.

During the smell I think I felt a little resistance in the car, it didn't seem to want to accelerate as willingly as normal feeling a little sluggsih.... but alls well again, she pullin' beautifully and no nasty smells anywhere..

100% it is the filter cleaning process. Same on my diesel. Delay on accelerator, noise from exhaust and rubber smell at the rear of the car. Automatic process and the intervals depend upon your driving.

Thanks, nice to know, the steelers wanted 30 minutes labour to check it - about ?65!!!

Although one of the guys I got to know rang me back later and said they would give it a quick check FOC if I took it in next week.

I'm pretty sure now it is definately the particulate filter.

Thanks again to everyone.
