On the old e39 you could choose beige/beige beige/black or beige/grey. Hope they will do that on the e60 soon. I had a beige/black with black headliner. Much better than the all beige I have now!

I once saw a blue 330ci convertible at my dealers with the sort of blood red trim at about 1000gbp below forecourt value at that spec.. he directly attributed this to the trim colour and said there are only really 3 safe colours - Black, Beige and Grey .. all else in my local dealers eyes devalued residual..

I have to laugh at UK dealers. It is their timid approach that causes buyers to reject more interesting interior colours as they keep this nonsense going about black, grey and beige being the only "safe" colours for resale. I think modern buyers are craving more individual looking cars and interior colours are an important way of achieving this. Any interesting colour schemes with such leather colours as tanin red, cinnamon and light yellow on E46 models tend to sell very well on forecourts as they stand out against a sea of uniform blandness.

The new E90 is being universally praised I believe when customers are viewing cars fitted with the two tone black/lemon (really a vanilla colour) interior. It makes the car look a lot more upmarket when sitting in the showroom. BMW GB however have spec'ed most of their dealer allocation launch cars in the awful colour Monaco blue with grey cloth interior which is the least flattering combination possible on this car IMHO. The new tera leather interior in the E90 when combined with burr walnut and a sparkling grahite exterior looks stunning and very classy. It is a few shades darker than the auburn in the E60 but looks remarkably similar. BMW should offer the option to two tone the grey and beige interiors with black. They now do this on Mini's so it can't be that hard to offer it on a BMW. It only involves fitting a grey of beige door card to a black door panel for goodness sake and the same with the seat facings. When combined with an anthracite headliner to give a true two tone look the results are great.

Merv, the ameythyst two-tone interior is surprisingly nice too. Don't be put off by the ameythyst exterior paint colout, which is somewhat dodgy imho.

I think it stands for Diesel Engined Road Vehicle. I joined when I was half cut and Merv the Derv just came to me. I realise now how crap it is as all others members have either used their own name or something really cool sounding like Iceman.

Not seen the amethyst interior, is it available in the UK? The exterior isn't my first choice colour, but then again BMW are offering a large colour choice and each to his own and all that. I have seen a number of these on the road though.

The sole purpose of getting the auburn was for the two tone..its somthing different that not many people consider since they dont trust the combo...although its a choice i will never regret...peoples reactions towards the combination is loving it or hating it ...never inbetween
