Interesting battery/alternator observations
Yes our cars do have huge alternators as well as huge batteries.
Even though the alternator is huge, if you drive with headlights on, rear de-mister, heater etc. etc. for short distances, then a lot of the ouput of the alternator goes towards running these power hungry devices and not enough to fully recharging the battery.
If you add to this the huge current demands on the battery during start up it can get to apoint where the battery really starts getting depleted.
Take the car for a long run with few of the power hungry accessories on and yes the battery will get a good charge.
The main point I was trying to make is that it can really add to the life of your battery if you take good care of it. One of the ways to do this is to periodically give it a good charge using a good charger.
I have not done this until now, but intend to do so fron now on.

My car battery constantly reads under 12 volts, 11.87v last time I checked, and the battery's "magic eye" is always black ("insufficient charge.") I told the dealership about it while it was in for transmission work and they said everything was OK... The car works fine, never had a low battery warning.
Might be a good excuse for long road trips, "need to charge the battery..."

Where do you connect the cables to charge the E60? I cant even find the battery.
Jump start points are under the hood.
Look manual!
