Okay, so I spent the weekend replacing the y-pipe leading to the secondary air valves, and while I was at it I decided to replace the driver side valve cover gasket. That is a job not for the faint-hearted, believe me.
Anyway, I have the Bentley manual which briefly described removal of the eccentric cam drive motor and the statement that installation is reverse of removal. The question I have is whether I could have messed up adjustment of the eccentric cam. I am assuming that on start up the DME goes through an initialization process for the eccentric cam drive motor that positions the cam correctly and there is nothing to worry about. Is this correct?
Thanks!

After talking it over with an indy BMW mechanic, we determined that since the eccentric cam was in the fully closed position when I reinstalled the servo, no harm would be done if I went ahead and tried starting the car. Besides, even if it was in the maximum lift position, since I didn't muck around with the valve timing there wouldn't be any piston to valve contact, regardless. So, I turned the ignition on and waited for two minutes to be sure everything was initialized (assuming initializing takes place) and turned off the ignition. Then I did it a second time to be sure. Then I started the car and voila! it started right up and ran perfectly. Mission accomplished.
