I had my 2005 535d (104k) on an INPA diagnostic machine today for a health check and a few things came up (which is to be expected for the mileage I guess):

We suspected a dodgy injector (or injectors) and a visual check of the injectors showed:

Now which injector (or injectors) need changing based on that screen shot? I would guess cyl 4 but that seems too easy And where in the Midlands could I get them reconditioned as opposed to buying new ones for ?400 a piece?

Also, the throttle actuator fault is the common one which apparently can stop one of the turbo's working - well in my case it has not had that effect, car runs perfectly well and pulls like a train. I test drove a few when i bought this one and this seemed no different to the others, it seemed more powerful than one that had 70k on the clock - and I can certainly confirm that both turbos are working fine. How much is the throttle actuator part to replace, if I needed to? That fault has occured 21 times between 40k and 101k but I bought it at 103k. Also, it seems to only occur when the throttle position is 0% (closed). Can this be right?

Last question is this - the car has been serviced from birth to 101k by the same supplying BMW dealer - it is now out of warranty as of Jan 09, however they should have picked up at least some of these faults during its lifetime and fixed under warranty. What are my chances of a goodwill contribution?

TIA

wow. You might as well put some Greek text in here and ask for a translation.

Cylinder 2 and 4 both look suspect though still within tolerences. Does it idle a little lumpy?

Bet the dealer wont be interested as unless the car has been in for a specific fault which has re-appeared they wont see it as their problem. I doubt they do a diagnostic every time your car goes in for routine servicing.

Can't help you with the other bits im afraid.

BTW.. which version of INPA are you using? 5.0.2 or 5.03?

Thanks for the help.

The idle is fine 95% but once in a while you can feel a little 'skip', it happens very rarely though.

TBH, none of the faults found appear evident from driving it, I'm just trying to get ahead before something actually goes really wrong.

I'm not sure which INPA was used, it was a friend's equipment. Thanks anyway.

Yeah I guess those that have used INPA (which is maybe more common over here than in the states) would know what it meant. Everyone else can GTFO (j/k )

Might be worth adding some millers fuel treatment.. see if it sorts things out?

Do you think that could get the injectors working a bit better?

Well thats what its designed for. Assuming your injectors are a little clogged it may help release some of the crap - then again with your mileage it is just as likely to be a weak injector. Might be worth getting the view of a injection specialist
