Increased Emissions Warning Light?
Hey guys the increased emissions light came on my 04 530i I took it to two dealers one being my local mini dealer (because they took all the BMW techs from the local dealer) and the second dealer being BMW itself. Mini had diagnosed the problem and told me it was my thermostat was bad. When I took it to BMW they said it was my DISA valve have any of you had this issue? Thanks

Thermostat can cause emissions light if it is stuck open (engine won't warm up fast enough) or if the heater coil is broken (ECU tests the heater coil circuit on start up). I had a heater coil fail, and you can measure the resistance of the heater coil to eliminate that as a possibility. Pull the connector off the thermostat and measure the resistance between the two contacts - normally measures around 16ohms, but if it measures 1 (open circuit) then it is gone. A broken wire in the harness leading to the thermostat will also cause the same fault but it is rare.
so that will be getting replaced this week

Inspect your fuel filler cap as well. Clean the cap thread and seal, especially if it is dirty. You could use a little amount of fuel on a clean rag to wipe.
