couple days ago my alternator went out so i had it replaced with an 180amps Duralast alternator that was exact fit from Auto zone. when my alternator went bad it drained my battery and had it jumped from the trunk. after i got my new alternator and battery recharged (it came out with a good charge) it got installed and now i got a message on the iDrive saying " increased battery discharge" and my time and date get reset ed. why? can some one please help. i have been doing research but i have not yet found any answers. Thanks

1) Don't jump start from the trunk. Use the under-hood connections
2) Have you tested the battery?
3) What did you do to determine the alternator needed replaced?

yea i just found it not to jump it from the trunk. i did not know that, the battery was drained due to the alternator not keeping charge so i took it to get tested and charged and the battery came out good. also I got a charge malfunction message on my Idrive (red battery symbol) got the alternator replaced and my car is running perfect besides that battery discharge issue. thanks

Maybe a compatibility issue with that alternator if it isn't OEM? Have you read of others having success with that alternator?

or maybe whatever is wrong was wrong previously which caused the alternator to fail to begin with?

just because it is a "new" alternator does not mean that it may be any good...i've had alts go within a day or so and upward from there. save your receipt if its lifetime warranty, and if/when you determine that it's bad have the replacement tested at time of purchase [have had that happen as well]...some of the employees are real dumbass.
