I was wondering if any one can help? I have a 2004 525d Recently whilst driving along a country road i had to break hard to avoid colliding with a vehicle in front. As i came to a halt i was engulfed with a plume of smoke, which i thought may have been from my tyres, turned out was coming from exhaust. I drove for a short distance and it stopped smoking. Next day drove off but left a trail of dense smoke. Checked oil levels and it seems that oil level has increased. Any ideas what might be the cause?

I'm no expert by any means and my first suggestion would be to take it to the garage ASAP - however what color was the smoke? I bet white right. You probably have water in the engine somehow - cracked or leaking head gasket or something. Whatever it is, get it in quickly and don't drive it there, call for a tow.
good luck!

Injector seals leaking? I know that in diesel pickups (common rail engines) use oil to fire the injectors, and when the seals go, the diesel and oil can mix.

Check this thread, looks like an issue with the diesel engines.
