Impotance and a few other concerns

Hi all
I'm fairly new to this forum. I have a 535d, had it just over a week.
It has come to my attention that the 5 series BMW suffer from impotance. To be more specific im talking about the fag lighter that should errect on slidding the pannel back. Now this seems to be a common problem as all the vehicle i took for a test drive also suffered from this ED. The only way i can keep it errect is by holding it with my fingers. however i feel this defeats the whole purpose of having one in the first instance. So my question is. is this something that can be easily rectifed or should i taake it to the dealer, and does anyone else suffer with this.

The other thing that i have noticed the the lid on the fuel tank. i should be able to just push it to open however it seems to be jammed. someone somewhere did mention that there is a manual release thing somewere in the boot. most likly on the same side as the fuel lid??? anyone know more specifcly were this is or if i have to peel away the carpet?
your feedback would be appriciated

you rightly said that 5 series especially has this impotance issue with the lighter. the picture tells the story itself that its broken. The main cause of this problem is phone charger. when we push the charger in, it does not work, you really have to push it in hard to make it work and during that you snap the clip which holds the erecting lighter. so i would recommend that if your car is under warranty then take to any dealer and fingers crossed they will fix it without charging you. i had the same issue and as mentioned above i tried a bit harder with the phone charger and the clip snaped. i took the car to the dealer for something else and told them about the lighter so they changed it free of charge. but do remember one thing dont say that you tried too hard with the charger otherwise they might want to charge you. As far as the fuel tank lid is concerned i think the car has to be unlocked for it to work. but i dont think there is any manual release in the car itself.
Hope this helps.

There is a manual / emergency fuel filler cover release cord. It is accessed by removing the felt section for the tail light in the trunk. There is a plastic pull cord, which I think is green in color.

seems like a problem that could be avoided by using the other outlets for cell phone chargers.

indeed the vehicle is still under warrenty. i will be returning to the dealership once they decide to open.
As for the fuel lid i managed to get it open there is a rupper thing that should be attached to the lid that presses down on the leaver. this was missing and so would not open when pressed ive attached a little peice of rubber and it works fine but will be raining the issue with the dealership.
thanks for all your replies.
