tried this on my car which hasn't got comfort access and yes it started so i drove about half a mile and then tried to stop it the car wouldn't recognise the stop button until you put the key back in.
BTW i'm getting quite used to the start/stop button now at first I thought it was a pretty mad idea!

I tried this and it worked on my car with no C/A feature - but only if you do not open the door.
After I stopped the engine and removed the key I opened the driver's door and closed it and the car did not start without the key inserted, even with the door open did not work.
So I guess it is not a problem! It can not be stolen using this method - because if you are out of the car this trick is disabled.
Am I right, or somebody else has a different opinion?

I attended the Intensive Driver training using the 3E90 330 last month. One of the instructors demonstrated this to us. I tried it and the car actually could start w/out the key.

My assumption is that once the key is slotted in, it communicates with the car. However, if you pull it out and at the same time push the start button, it starts. The reason is because whatever is communicated between the two are still valid as the car has not gone to sleep yet. Is this a valid reasoning?

Well then thats not really a problem if once you open the door it disables it.

nice feature...it worked for me too!

But!...after I pressed the 'stop button'..got out of my car and locked my car...my idrive was still on. So, I had to go back in...inserted the key...removed it... then my idrive went off.

In 330 opening the door is not helping. I could restart the engine with the key removed and after i was outside the car for some seconds. Receive my new 530 later so can not confim if 530 works differently.
