If your boot (hood) is opening too fast
#1
Man - what a frustrating thing.
My boot was lifting waaay too fast and turns out there's a spring each side next to the hinges lifting it. The right hand one has a gas strut in it, that's meant to slow it down.
I've been buying struts with the same physical dimensions - One too hard (hardliy opens at all), another too soft (not much beter than the worn out one).. but I've found the right part.
BMW want $527.00 for it here in Australia. Admittedly that includes the spring (yippee), and forgoes the fun you'll have pulling the spring off the strut and getting it back in.
If I set prices the way BMW have on this part, I'd be in court defending myself! At the very least I'd be ashamed of myself for gouging people like that. Shame shame.
Anyway - For those that are interested - the strut is;
Brand: STABILUS
Model: STAB-O-SHOC
Part Number:6255SA
Here in Australia it's $57.70 plus GST, and the Stabilus guys couldn't be more accommodating and professional.

You don't need to buy anything. You can just move where the spring is mounted. I think there are 3 positions to mount the spring. The default is the middle. You can move the end point closer to the back of the car or whatever direction to lessen the tension on the spring.
