I don't? know why the reviews for the Idrive were so poor. I like the Idrive! It's just like using a mouse in my opinion. The reviewers must be lame with technology.? I am totally happy with the ability to access pretty much everything from one location.

If i-Drive is so bad then why are so many other manufacturers copying the idea : even the new renault laguna will have something similar. Audi A6 dash is too cluttered

i-Drive simplifies things

Eventually, the rest of the world will figure out what we already know. It's clearly the future in car design -- people are just resistant to change.
Lately, even the car magazines are starting to warm to the concept. They realize this is a trend not going to go away so they now have to accept it and evaluate the systems based on their individual strengths and weaknesses.
iDrive has a bad name because it was first and was pretty complex in the 7. Now, all the other manufacturers are benefitting from the lessons learned.

I just feel it is so much better not to have to look for and reach for a button/knob/switch or touch screen to pick the menu or navigate around the menu. The implementation BMW has with the knob resting at just the right place, directional control for choosing which menu choice without looking and then the twist with or without detent (feedback) again without looking (except at the screen) means less eye movement, less head movement compared to the others. These other mfrs are getting closer in concept but still not in implementation. I have now tried a few of the others (M45 and Lexus) after I took possession of my 6er and I am so pleased with the BMW model I do not think I could go to another method.

I love the I-drive in my 545. The people writing the reviews must be the same 2% of the population that don't own a PC.? ![Innocent](https://5series.net/forums/images/smilies/imported/innocent.gif)
