Wife was driving the 05 545i today and the iDrive screen was black at start up. Radio will not work either. Is there a reset procedure for iDrive without navigation? Have a dealer appt Monday morning but I would like to solve the problem before then. Hard to go the weekend without some jams!

Thanks.

This happen to me as well. Unfortunately it was my CCC (Central Car Computer). They replaced the computer for the low price of $1500 .

This is crazy! I too have a 545 and have my car booked in with BMW on Monday AND this very thing happened to me for the first ever time today also (talk about coincidence). I turned the car off a few times but to no avail, however after letting it sit for about 10mins and then restarting it and all was fine and back to normal. I don't know it you have let it rest/restart but might be worth it. Good luck and keep us posted.

I had this same issue(after leaving my trunk open when it rained). If your seatbelt reminder or door open chime is not sounding either, chances are it is your power module for the I drive located under your spare tire in the trunk. It's 150 from the dealer and very simple to replace. I would say pull the spare out and take a look at it. Check to see if it is loose, corroded or wet.

I think the reset is the same. Press the volume knob and the eject button on the CD instead of the DVD drive. Should do the trick..... If it doesnt let me know and I will see if I can find a solution...

I too had this happen. First time it happened, it started to work after letting it sit while I was in the car. But it happened yet again and I brought it in to the dealership. They said that the screen was faulty and had to contact BMW Engineering to see if they were authorized to do the repair since my car was CPO and I demanded that this was electrical. So leaving my car there for the day and all they had to do was update the system. Working good so far but time will only tell.

But I ask myself, if my screen goes out, why the hell does everything else fail. Did they not engineer this correctly the first time with the circuit and relay to still provide power to all other components.

The dealer called my wife late today while I was at the gym and told her they suspect the screen is defective. I will have to call them back in the morning and share some of the experiences listed on e60. They did find a problem with my A/C compressor and that is being replaced under CPO. Hopefully they can resolve the iDrive issue tomorrow and get me back on the road. I will let you know how it turns out.

You could always try to check the fuses in the trunk. A co-worker of mine has an '06 530 and he claims that removing one of the fuses resets it....I dunno.
