Pure speculation now, being a software guy, I'll bet the "close assist window" did at one point close the assist window, and then they realized there was no menu item to get it back! Easy fix: blank it, don't close it, then ship the software!

That sounds about right

I like having 2 Navi screens, it would be nice if one screen could have the "map direction of travel" and the other screen "map facing north" at the same time.

But the girls always ask "Why do you have two screens?"

You can do this!

I also like location information and arrow display for driving at night. The maps are too bright sometimes.

I could also swear that before the first time I used the assist window it was not split screen. I remember trying to get back to full screen when I was first driving home. I think you are right.

Are you sure? How do you get the two *different* map views to show at the same time?

Select the one you want for the left side like usual and than push the iDrive knob to the right to select the right side and push it down to get a list of view choices for the right side. I have never actually done it with facing north and direction of travel but I have had both displaying facing north at the same time. Kinda weird...just playing around one day. The options are there so it should work.

edit.... Just noticed you highlighted different! That may be the catch...
