iDrive intermittently cutting out
#1
My iDrive is intermittently cutting out. I'll be driving along and out of the blue, for ~1/2 a second, the screen blanks, the radio goes silent, and the heads-up dissapears. Afterwards, all is good. The screen comes back on, the radio plays again, and the heads-up reappears. The momentary cut-out doesn't cause the iDrive to reboot and I'm not having any other issues. Unfortunately, its happening more and more often - 3 times during the 30 minute drive home tonight.
My car is an 8/2006 build, and has had an iDrive software update maybe about two years ago. The battery is likewise 2 years old.
Any ideas? The search function didn't yield anything promising.

Your Micro Power Module might be damaged. It's located in the trunk underneath the spare tire cover. It's a white box. Some people in the forum said it's very prone to water damage due to the location of the module. Try googling "Micro Power Module BMW E60"

Thanks. Reading about the MPM and what it does, I think you might be right. . . or at least this might be an easy, relatively inexpesive part to change out to rule it out.

I have a 530d SE (04/2004) and I'm having simlar problems with my idrive cutting out or not booting up when starting the car, and these problems started after a recent repair. Having contacted the repairing BMW garage they state it may be due to a software update that may have been done at the time. It's going back to them tomorrow to check into. The MPM module in my car is dry and intact!!

Have just been told that diagnostics show it's a CCC fault - Oh C--P!!!! I've had enough of the car and just want to get rid of it now!! First a thermostatic valve needs replacing end of June, then the turbo, inlet manifold and propellor camshaft all fail, and now this!!!!!!!
And all this on a car with a FBWMSH, and only 47,000 miles!!
