After getting my windows tinted I started to drive off and noticed none of the beeps were going off. (seat belt, key in ignition, PDC, etc.) I remember seeing my door not being closed all the way so maybe the battery was a little drained and affected the idrive. I waited till the lawyer screen popped up so I could accept and when I pressed the idrive it wouldn't take it. Next, I tried turning the knob and it would just turn freely, like I could just spin it. PDC button didn't work, ejected and reinserted cd, nothing worked. I turned the engine off and back on to see if it would reset to no avail. I asked them if they took my battery out before tinting my windows and they said they didn't even open the trunk. I drove off and tried turning the engine off and on at a stoplight, but still nothing. I ran some errands and parked my car for about an hour. I got back in my car and everything was back to normal. iDrive was alive again. Don't know what that was all about. I'm just glad I don't gotta take it back to the dealer. Has anything similar happenned to anyone?

I'm sure iDrive has locked up at various times for people.
And in cars with Navigation (Pro Nav), you can actually cause iDrive to reboot by holding:
CD eject, DVD eject, and radio mute (pressing the volume knob) simultaneously. Think of it as control-alt-delete for iDrive. It's likely that would have fixed the issue.

Thanks for the replies. I was just worried it was a sign of more things to happen with my CCC. At least I learned there really is a way to reboot the system. Thanks, das. It's nice to know pressing the volume knob mutes the music. I've been using the mute button on the steering wheel. My system has reboot 2 other times for no apparent reason but has come back up fine.

Since I got my CIP 18.1 upgrade (end July), I haven't had a single freeze! I drive several times daily! Before that, I got 1 or 2 freezes a week.

Be careful with the Windows tint installation, most of tint installers leave the key in position II (all eletronics and alternator on). With car in key position II and idrive on for few hours, the battery will go out quickly. Also, it doesn't help that the water gets into the inside door panels during tint installation. Water may damage the motor for Windows.
