My Ride: 2006 550i Jet Black, matte black grill, red Rpi ram air scoop, gloss black stock wheels, acs trunk lip spoiler, darkest CA legal tint on all windows, tinted tail.
Ok so sometimes, I mean rarely when I start up my car the Idrive freezes and on it gives a warning light that has S0S crossed out and it has the warning triangle, meanwhile on the idrive screen it freezes,I can't do anything about it, it will unfreeze by itself after I drive like for 10 minutes. Anybody know why?

Sounds like the CCC unit is dying (if you have Nav). Mine did the same thing for a few months, and occasionally the screen went black when driving. Eventually it just stayed black and died, I got a new CCC unit and had it programmed to my car. It happens, sorry Buddy

And roughly how much did it cost? Where did you buy the new unit?

Well, new units are no longer manufactured, however, I got a remanufactured unit from Tischer BMW for $650. My case is slightly different since I also got a new TCU (for Bluetooth) and an AUX cable at the same time. Install and programming of all 3 was $330, the total for me was $1100 including all parts and labor. BTW, if you have warranty or not, electronics are not covered.

I had CPO warranty from BMW, so no electronics were covered. Some 3rd party warranties will cover them. Next time I buy a BMW (and I will) I will get a good 3rd party warranty with it instead of CPO.
