The battery was changed at the dealer one year ago. I just discovered this week that the dealer (serviced both of my cars in the past) did NOT change the programming of the car (CAS module) to the AGM battery (even though they claimed they did on BOTH cars) from the FLA.

I tried a new battery before bringing it into the shop for the alternator, and did register that change as well reprogram for the AGM battery type and appropriate size. Still had the problems.

The car is back with a new alternator and seems to be working fine now!

I really do wonder how critical the reprogramming from non-AGM to AGM really is. I'm sure there is benefit, but I'm wondering how critical it is. I replaced traditional flooded batteries in daughter's 2007 Mazda 3 and in other daughter's 2010 RAV4 with AGM's over the last couple years and they have had no issues.

Having said that, when I replaced the battery in my 2006 520xi last winter, I used the same non-AGM type as was in there. And, I also replaced wife's 2009 X5 with AGM as it had AGM.

According to what I read in some BMW documentation it does reduce the max charging voltage and charging routine specific to AGM batteries.

My digital standalone battery charger also has an FLA and AGM specific settings.

I have read that too in the BMW docs, but at the end of the day, I'm wondering how much difference it makes. For example, does it prolong the battery life by 5%? Or, is it so critical that it is more like 50%?

Well my new AGM battery from the dealer lasted less than three years (with the wrong programming) when the original FLA battery lasted over 5 years.

AGM programming seems critical, battery size and registering is a little more forgiving

Default Did you ever figure this problem out?

I read the whole thread from your issues back in 2014. Did you ever get this figured out? My car is having the exact same problems and I’m going crazy. We have replaced the alternator and battery, among other things. The screen is flickering, the battery keeps draining and the passenger seat belt/airbag restraint warning is also on. Please tell me you found answers in the end.

The battery is extremely weak now and struggles to start. I had the battery recharged about a week ago.

- Alternator is new and has been replaced twice
- Battery is new
- 4 prong relay part #61366901469 is new

Now, the IBS sensor is still in place and is not unplugged. Should i unplug the sensor and check the OBC menu? sanjsanj, help me out here man.
