Currently owning a 2006 520d manual Pro Nav.
iDrive suddenly crashed while driving today (blank screen - no sound - no more iDrive funtion available.
Turned off the car. Waited............. IDrive silent.
Came back to E60 Forums: found the reboot function (why don't they mention it in BMW documents); Went back to the car: pressed MUTE - CD EJECT - DVD EJECT. IDrive came back on.... And then crashed again
Rebooted once.... Nothing
Rebooted twice... Nothing
Rebooted thrice... System was back up and rolling.... But no more sound neither from Radio, nor from Nav (double checked that the mute button was not pressed, and the "silence" icon was definiely not apparent on iDrive screen.
Of course, appointment to dealer is on its way (no closer than 3 weeks wait back here in Paris though...); any advice ?

PS. Still definitely LOVES this car though

I wouldn't wait 3 weeks!!!

This is not an appointment for a service, it is an emergency appointment.
They should help you on the spot! Means: Give you a loaner and start working on the car.
Who knows? Maybe your car will start burning next?

This sounds like you have a bigger problem with your CCC.

Although it sounds tongue in cheek, he?s right. There may be important safety systems that are not working.

Well on board check is reportedly "OK".
All dashboards signals come on. And delaers advice was that there was no safety issue as the "onboard check" is OK.....

I don't think you have a serious safety problem, but I would not drive with the car having this problem.
And who knows, maybe there IS a safety issue, so tell your dealer to do his job. Nicely of course!

I have the same "no sound" problem like you, except I don't have navi. BTW, what's the reboot function you mentioned?????

It's only for the CCC (nav pro).

It's not in the owners manual, because it's not an official feature.

With Pro Nav, you simultaneously press
MUTE - CD EJECT button - DVD Eject Button

I think without Nav, you can press only on MUTE - CD EJECT Button ... That's my guess....

I know that, but the funny thing is that when you call the dealer to mention the iDrive crash, they automatically invite you to reset the iDrive feature with the combination !!!
