Hi all,

So the story goes...........After researching the Pro Nav retrofit and the software issues arising, I fitted a 2005 CCC unit into my 2005 535D, hoping I will not need any software upgrades to make it work.

It worked a charm.

It even had bluetooth and TMC enabled. Result! The car itself has no faults (so I thought) and drives lovely.

I just noticed two things, one that I had lost the independent extended climate control feature, could only select hot or cold (no biggie), the fans still worked. And I fitted the twin idrive button and voice command mic etc. which didn't work.

So I thought to myself, no problem, I'll get a software update and get them to enable both MP3 and Voice recognition.

Gave the car in to the Stealer, they plugged it in, the engineer said he had to ignore one or two fault codes, but the car is now updating and says it will take over 12 hours. Not a problem I thought, at least it's updating. Left it overnight, went in this morning and guess what.

The software update didn't happen.

He showed me pages of stuff that had ? marks on them, not neccessarily wrong with it, but something to look out for. But the main thing that stopped the computer from updating the software was it could not communicate/recognise the seat modules (I installed new cream leather M \sport seats from a 2009 car - mmmmmmm ) and the obvious one was it could not recognise the CCC in there.

Bottom line was, they rejected my car and said it could not be done and that if they tried, they would have to fix all the pages of queries and the two main faults stopping them, it would cost ?2000+ and even then they would not guarantee it would work.

I told them to change the Vehicle Order of the car, add CCC and the new seats. They said they can't. I said ok, use the retrofit code for the CCC at least. They said they can't. So I asked them what can I do. I was told to put the car back to original order and sell it and buy a new one with the stuff in.

I thought to myself, "Yeah right! moron. This can be done. You just can't be assed to do it".

So I'm pleading to the community, is there anyway to get round this. I was kind of thinking replace the MASK system, get the seating wire sorted. Run the update on stock at which point they can use the CCC retrofit code etc. to make it all fit in.

Or is there another way I can get the software updated and the voice and MP3 features activated? Please I'm so close, yet so far, I need your help guys.

Fact is with BMW anything that is not programmed in by them will bring up errors. I had the proffesional retrofit done myself but bought the kit from Germany, which they won't happy about installing as I got it a lot cheaper than they would sell it for. Everything worked apart from voice command, which I had to pay extra for and then they told me it wasn't working which I found out was because they had not attached the second mic to he back of the CCC something I found in 10 minutes. Didn't go back there again, total rip off merchants. Anyway wanted to connect an Dension Gateway 500, so I took it in to another dealer for the MP3 enabling on the CCC, again didn't want to do it, but showed them evidence that it can be done, so they did but couldn't guarantee it would work. It did and I fitted the Dension in a loop with the CD changer. As the Dension was in a bad position I decided to get rid of the CD changer all togther and just have the Dension. How for the moral of the story, when I took the car back in to have folding mirrors activated, the BMW software would not even talk to the car, it was looking for the CD changer that was no longer there so nothing could be programmed. I had already sold the CD changer on E-Bay so I have now had to buy another one in case I need the car programming again. If you change the equipment in your car yourself, and it is not registered as been taken off or added it will bring up an error and no programming is possible, well according the BMW.

My advise would be to see if an indepentant BMW garage can help you out, there are several garages offering BMW coding and have all the equipment that the main dealers have.

You have taken a huge step in replacing the CCC.

You might not find the expertise here to advise you, hopefully a good indy might sort it out, but these cars are so complicated it might be a dealer only issue.

A dealer is unlikely to be prepared to put the car into non standard configuration as anything that then plays up might be laid at thier door.

There are so many inter-dependant systems in it, it would be almost impossible to ensure it would work well with a non standard CCC.

You have to understand from thier end, you have put non-standard stuff into the car, they will not want to do anything that leads to them being held liable for future problems especially as some of them could well be safety related.

Wow GL bro

Thanks, at least I got a reply.

Anyone? Is there a certain order of install update, reprogram I can do. Maybe rebuild the whole software. Where the battery was on during these mods, I'm thinking the computer registered disconnection of items and therefore results in errors.

The ISTA/P report concludes

The following control units have not responded or respond incorrectly:

SMFA - The control unit could not be identified (Front driver side seat module)
SMBF - The control unit could not be identified (Front passenger side seat module)
AUD - The control unit could not be identified (God knows what this is, guessing Audio)
CHAMP-S/M-ASK-S - The control unit could not be identified (This was the old MASK system, which is now CCC)
CHAMP-/M-ASK-H - The control unit could not be identified (This was the old MASK system, which is now CCC)

Additional Actions:
CAS - Write vehicle order (Failed)
LM - Write vehicle order (Failed)
- - Update integration Level (Failed)

I will scan the whole report at work tomorrow and post it on here, if anyone that has been using Progman/ISTA, could you please help and direct me to what to do. All avenues look closed, yet there are some very smart people on this forum that I know can help. I've been following the forum for a few months now.

Cheers guys.

Cheers for the reply Kas, Flash.

I understand what you guys are saying, but if we simplify it, all parts are original BMW, all parts work as expected. The only sticking point is the BMW software doesn't recognise the parts that were ORIGINALLY fit on.

The software doesn't say they are working incorrectly or are faulty. It's just throwing a hissy fit "You didn't buy from me so I won't help you".

All that needs to be done is update the Vehicle Order and link the parts to the car. Some of our Easterrn European fellows do this easily all the time.

Am I correct in my thinking?

You're main dealer is takin the piss, all this can be done at a price, for the update to take place you should have updated the software to the newest version first then added the seat module's and then the new ccc unit,i'm no expert but I had my pronav retrofitted(I had no nav at all)and my mirror's to autofold using a very good independent bmw specialist here in Huddersfield,W.York's,i'll dig out the number for you mate, give em a ring and tell them what you did and i'm sure they can sort it out for you 100%,they have a full autologic diagnostic and two ex BMW engineer's with over 20yr's knowledge.

Cheers Sanj. That would be great.

Any idea how much he would charge and also, can anyone tell me if it's better to get all the mods I want onto the car first (like adaptive xenons, folding mirrors, rear led lights etc.) and to go in for one almighty update and programme?

My thinking was, doing it all in one go will save money compared to doing it in bits.
