I seem to remember Hobi mentioning something like this when I met him in London. I don't remember the details very well but I think he traced it to a wire being pinched by the seat belt anchor bracket under the rear seat and he was able to fix it by moving the wire a bit. I would suggest PM'ing Hobi directly and asking about the details as I may have forgotten some things that he mentioned.

Don't worry about this. I have had exactly the same issue with my 2006 525xi that I took delivery on a month ago. BMW apparently knows about this issue and are working on a fix (i.e. right now there is no fix for it). It will not result in any battery drain.
There was a very informative discussion on this topic with a copy of the service advisory on this forum, but right now I can't find it with the search function. However, if you go though all the threads, it was within the last 5 weeks or so.
