I gambled and changed mine two weekends ago (while it snowed). Last week, the car spent most of it's time at the dealer and the weather was great. This week, it got cold but no snow threats so I guess my gamble paid off.

Now, I have the car back with another brand new set of (free) Dunlops so all is well in my world right now...

I gambled here in MI 4 weeks ago with summer tires. I was the first brave soul at my dealership to make the change and simply got lucky.

Like night and day ... with summers, you can't even move on a snow covered road, but with winters, you cut through it like a hot knife through butter
I confirm!

Us living in real winter conditions know.

The differance between good winter tyres and summer tyres is incredible.

4WD helps but not enough.

If it snows again and you guys have summer tires on, try putting sandbags or something heavy in the trunk. Might help a little...

Sorry to comment on this but the sandbags used to help old RWD cars when all the weight was upfront.

This is not true anymore since the E60 has a 50/50 balance between the axels.

In my younger days I used to drive a '66 Plymouth FuryIII with a huge V8 in the front.
I must have had about 300 lb's in the trunk but the car was still a bitch to drive

Isn't is against the law to have a 300lb bitch our trunk

The Fury could also handle large cargo, if needed, but not whatever.

Usually the ladies where inside, at least the smaller ones...

PS. Checked it out, it was a Fury 1 with a 318 cid all iron V8.

I swapped mine a week ago in Chicago. So far, so good. No snow since -- although we might be a teeny bit in the next few days. But I'll be fine. I can confirm the winter tires make a huge difference in snow -- and that the summer tires get much nicer grip on dry pavement. It's good to have the summers back on.

Plus it's nice to have 275s out back instead of my winter 225s. It just looks so badass.
