Clearly not crazy. What's crazy is that other high-end car manufacturers don't even offer a manual transmission!
+1. but congrats on your order and enjoy it once you get it

It seems that very few would get a manual transmission on a 5 series but I did it anyways. It just seems that I would get bored with an automatic 535i. I have always driven manual and when I drive automatic, I get sleepy. AM I CRAZY??

Manual Transmission is over rated. They are nice but I had to switch over to auto due to heavy bumper to bumper commuting traffic. While in this heavy traffic, the manual becomes a PITA.
And auto is not that bad.

If I had a third car and only used it for fun or weekends, it would be manual, but for my daily driver, I have a 550 sport with Sport automatic, and in all honesty, I don't miss the manual.

It all comes down to personal choice. My last 5 cars have all been manual. I buy manual because I enjoying a manual.

Will an auto shift faster, sure. Will an auto allow you to drink coffee a bit easier, sure. Will an auto be more comfy in bumper to bumper traffic, sure. Will an auto ever give the driving experience of a manual, NEVER.

If you enjoy rowing your own gears, get a manual. Don't worry about resale or what others may think.

+1 on the SSk and CDV

It is a beautiful thing to drive the ultimate driving machine. If you want to have 100% control of the engine at all times than in my opinion drive a manual. I do not enjoy a manual in heavy traffic, I absolutely despise it. But there are times when I want to have complete control of the shfting, but I opt to sacriice that control for the automatic. Just my preference.

Get what you want and enjoy it...

Nope....you ain't crazy...I orderedn mine with 6-spd for exactly the same reason. Be prepared to be disappointed with the long throw of the shifter and jerkiness when shifting. Be sure to invest in a short shift kit and a clutch-delay valve and you'll be all set!
What do you mean get a clutch delay valve? I have a 2004 545i manual and I attribute some strange behaviors to the clutch delay valve. Is there an upgrade? Also these cars have very large dual mass flywheels and big trannys so they just don't shift the way a lighter smaller car would. I need to have the dealer look at my car because engaging the clutch at parking lot speeds makes a vibration noise that feels like the engine just broke a mount and fell out. I find myself doing things to baby the syncros all the time like double clutching all my downshifts to keep things smooth. It does not feel right to me and makes lots of clunking noises in parking lots. I have to get the dealer to look at it.

I actually prefer to drive a manual in traffic Ya I know I'm insane... but I dont like how an auto just keeps moving forward when I have my foot off the gas... keeps gaining speed and then I have to ride the brakes to stop the car... with a manual i can hold it in 1st or 2nd and time it correctly where I dont have to brake as much... I rather push the clutch than move my feet right to left and pushing the brake.

I just did a quick check and the KBB for a 2004 530i with standard is $650 less than auto. But it's worth it in my book. I love it.
Yeah, but isn't it also less expensive to buy..
