Default I Drive reboot

Twice in the last 2 weeks I have been driving to work in the morning after the car sits in the garage overnight and the I-drive shuts down and goes blank and then reboots and comes back. I have heard a click from the dash when this happens. Anyone have an idea how to trouble shoot this?

Thanks,
Roger

Mine often flashes or blinks but I wouldn't say it re-boots though. Basically the screen goes blank for about 1-2 seconds then comes right back, just enough to get your attention. I don't hear a noise as you mention though. A few here have had a similar issues like you mention and they eventually had to replace the head unit. Mine has been doing this a few times a day for over a year and hasn't failed yet. I also have the video/back up aftermarket device like modmynav installed and this could be part of my issues.

I've seen this a couple times over the years and when I burned a new Navigation DVD, the problem went away.

When mine goes blank the radio turns off and then it all comes back on just like when you start the car. I just put in a new nav DVD and about 3 weeks later it started. Only has happened twice in the mornings but not in the afternoon when the car is hot. I drive with fresh air as my office is freezing. I will continue to monitor.

Based on what you say, I'm guessing it is the DVD. I think the iDrive is sensitive to DVD reading difficulties.

I took the DVD out of the drive and it happened again this morning. I was able to figure out some more of the issue. It seems to only happen when selecting stations on the Sirius SAT radio. The preset area is fine but when I go to all channels and select another channel it "locks up" then the screen goes blank and then it cuts out completely. Within 10 seconds the screen comes back up as if you just turned the car on and it says "BMW" then the legal message and so on. Looks like now I can repeat this all day long. No issues with any other media or other menu items.
